Portuguese Linguistic Experts

About the role

Mercor is seeking experienced Portuguese Linguistic Experts for an AI research project with a leading research lab. The work focuses on evaluating how well a large language model performs in Portuguese and curating high-quality Portuguese data to improve it.

Key responsibilities

• Evaluate the quality and accuracy of AI-generated Portuguese text (translation, summarization, dialogue, grammar correction)
• Edit, refine or rewrite Portuguese content to meet linguistic and cultural standards
• Annotate Portuguese text for grammatical, syntactic and semantic features
• Identify model errors and language gaps
• Provide detailed linguistic feedback to guide model training

Requirements

• Native or near-native fluency in Portuguese, with excellent grammar, syntax and style
• Professional experience in translation, editing, linguistic annotation or NLP data work in Portuguese
• Strong understanding of linguistic nuances, regional variations and context-appropriate usage
• Interest in AI and language technology (preferred, not required)
• Excellent attention to detail and clear communication in remote teams

Contract and payment terms

• Independent contractor, fully remote, on your own schedule
• $50/hour; projects can be extended, shortened or concluded early depending on needs and performance
• Weekly payments via Stripe or Wise based on services rendered
• Mercor cannot support H1-B or STEM OPT candidates at this time
